01ABOUT THE SPACE

Sea Room lynn is a lifestyle brand for women drawn to both the coast and the city. Its Tamagawa Takashimaya store translates the idea of a poised, independent woman into an interior of fine lines and natural materials.

A stone-clad column anchors the space. Slender garment rails, thin stainless-steel shelving, a solid timber table and square tiles balance softness with a sense of resolve.

The plan gently narrows toward the centre, creating depth beyond the immediate view. Daylight entering through broad openings brings out the textures of the materials and subtle shifts of light and shade.

02PHOTOGRAPHIC DIRECTION

The photographic direction sought to express the brand’s relaxed softness and poised character through the relationships between line, material and light.

The façade was photographed both straight on and obliquely, including its atmosphere as evening approached. For the pale-pink translucent resin at the front, light and tonal balance were adjusted to reveal its matte softness and delicate translucency without washing out the adjacent stone. The two materials needed to retain their distinct characters in the same frame.

Inside, the downlights were deliberately switched off and daylight alone provided the illumination. Side light moved across the tiles in gradual shifts of tone, revealing the narrowing spatial sequence and the qualities of each surface.

Square tile joints and slender fixtures introduced numerous competing lines. Camera height, position and angle were considered carefully to reduce visual intersections. In the fitting room, the tile joints were aligned to run cleanly from the centre of the frame into the depth of the space.

The large timber table was given presence through perspective while the fine outlines of garment rails and sheet-like stainless-steel shelves remained visible behind it. The contrast between substantial timber and delicate metal communicates both softness and precision.

Every garment was removed from the displays and the selection, colour balance, spacing and placement were composed anew. This kept the clothes present without obscuring the finely drawn fixtures and materials.

Rather than add more light or information, the photographs use the gradations of daylight and the deliberate restraint of line and plane. Stone, wood, metal, tile and clothing retain their own presence within a unified expression of the brand.
